The Team

Magnetic Arts was founded in 2011.

Thanks to Directors who have developed the organisation over past years , Vanessa Langford, Emily Harvey, Helen Lowdell, Natasha Almond and Frank Holli.

Current Directors

Vanessa Ann Langford

Vanessa has been working with communities and people of all ages for twenty years. She has an art degree and is a qualified teacher and youth-worker. Formerly Community Arts Officer for City of York Council for 8 years , Vanessa is a freelance Project Manager and Community Artist  specialising in  work with vulnerable adults. Other roles include being a Regional Associate for the UK based ‘Campaign For Drawing’ and a Board Member of Love Arts York.

 

 Brian Elmer

Brian is a qualified social worker with 15 years’ experience in Child & Family Social Work in Wakefield and Leeds. More recently he was employed by York Mind as organiser of their Information Line- a mental health support line. He became aware of the socially isolating nature of mental illness and went on to help found and facilitate self help groups for OCD, Anxiety and Depression, and then to become Coordinator of their Befriending Scheme.  More recently he has  been working for North Yorks County Council’s Community Recovery Team in the Selby area. This involves providing one to one support for people in the community with mental health problems and signposting them to social and educational opportunities that may help their recovery. Over the past few years he has also been a Support Worker for the Children’s Society and a social work student Practice Educator for York University. Brian has supported Magnetic Arts work in Selby since 2012 and became a Director in 2015.

Daniel Brittan

Dan has worked as a Support & Activity Group Manager at York Mind since 2009. He has a qualification in community mental health care. Prior to 2009 he volunteered for York Mind as a support group facilitator, information and administration volunteer. From 1998 to 2006 he worked as an administrator at Victim Support. Dan has supported Magnetic Arts for several years as a volunteer and with client liaison and became a Director in 2014.
